One of our favorite places to explore in Wilmington is the Delaware Nature Society's DuPont Environmental Education Center (DEEC). It sits on the edge of the Russell W. Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge, along the Christina River. This 212-acre nature refuge is just a stone's throw from downtown Wilmington while also being a world away. It has nature, animals, programs, crafts, and more - all for free!

It features:
- A free Visitor Center with panoramic river and marsh views
- Kids Programming: Drop-in Activities, School Programs, Scout & Group Programs, Activities Calendar
- A 10-acre ornamental garden
- A 1/4 mile handicap-accessible pond loop
- Trailhead access to the newly completed 5.5-mile-long Markell bike/hike trail.
Every Saturday:
- 1 - 130 PM: Netting in the Marsh: Immerse yourself in the captivating world of marsh ecosystems! Use dip nets to get up close and personal with diverse aquatic life, from tadpoles and fish to snails and bugs. This is 30 minutes of hands-on fun you don't want to miss! Free
- 1:45 - 2:15 PM: Meet Marsh Animals: Learn about some of the animals that live in and around the marsh. Free
3rd Saturday of the Month:
- DEEC Days of Service: Let's work together to improve urban marshlands, protect wildlife, and create a greener future. Free
